In Proverbs 15:3 we see this amazing statement, “The eyes of the Lord are in every place, keeping watch on the evil and the good.” The Lord sees everything that is going on. He sees the evil and He sees the good. He knows what you are doing even if you think you are hiding it.

We see this same concept when Samuel was sent to anoint the new king for Israel. He went to the house of Jesse and went through all of Jesse’s sons that were present and all were a no from God. He then asked if there were any others and Jesse said, “There remains yet the youngest, but behold, he is keeping the sheep” (1 Sam. 16:11). David was the youngest and possibly not the biggest around. Yet, God told Samuel in verse 7 that “the Lord sees not as man sees: man looks on the outward appearance, but the Lord looks on the heart.”

God sees everything we do. If He can see into the heart of man, He can see anything you may do or even think of doing. This is the reason why Jesus said in the Sermon on the Mount that when someone is angry with his brother in his heart he is liable to the same judgment as if he had murdered him (Matt. 5:21-22). If they lust after and desire a woman with a lustful intent they have already committed adultery (Matt. 5:27-28). These are sins that no one else can see in you but God can. He knows what is going on.

He sees the evil and the good. Each will receive what is due according to the evil or good. This means that even if a murderer gets away with the murder in this life, God did not miss it the murderer did not get off completely. Nor, do the good deeds you do that no one ever sees. You may think that the work you are doing for the Lord is going unnoticed, but you are wrong. God sees and He knows exactly what you are doing.

The same goes for all the good deeds and good works we do that look like we are doing them for the Lord but are really doing them for ourselves. He sees through our thin veils and knows the intents of our hearts. He knows when we are serving Him for Him ad when we are doing it for ourselves. Remember, He keeps watch on the good and the evil, and our false works are evil.

God knows all that is going on without a doubt. He can see into every corner of your heart. He can see through any lie we tell to cover up. He knows what is happening and none of it will go by without some punishment to the one who is not being right. This is true of believers and unbelievers alike.

The unbeliever may go through life and have no trouble at all. But in their death, they will receive more trouble than we could ever imagine. So do not be jealous of the unbeliever but rather go and share Christ with them and pray they believe so they do not face that terrible judgment.

The believer may receive much punishment and correction in this life. They may have a terrible time here if they are not serving God fully and correctly. They may even be in dire straits when serving Him fully and correctly. But that is nothing compared to what awaits them in eternity. That is glory and joy. The sufferings here only prepare you to fully love and enjoy the glory that awaits you. So, again, do not be jealous of others here, because you have a glorious day ahead.

Not to mention, the Lord sees all your diligence and service even in suffering and trouble. He will reward you for that in eternity. So take comfort in knowing that the Lord keeps watch on all evil and good. Take comfort that He sees the heart and not as man sees. He sees what you are going through and what you are doing. He is with you through it. Just rest in the knowledge that He is right there and will reward you for your faithfulness and He will punish the others for their wickedness.
